Chemical Waste Disposal 2006

The majority of Chemical waste can be disposed of by the University’s contracted disposal company (Collex). Waste Chemicals are required to be correctly labelled with

      Chemical name

      Brand name

Main active ingredient and the corresponding %

      Dangerous goods class

      UN Number

      Name of producer

Correct labelling ensures the system of Chemical disposal can run smoothly and that no Chemical waste is rejected due to inability to identify it. Disposal is charged on the container not on the amount within the container, so to reduce costs please keep this in mind.

There are some Chemicals that cannot or are very difficult to dispose of. As a part of Chemical management, disposal is to be considered and a solution found prior to starting any project which produces any of the following wastes. The following list of Chemical wastes is supplied to identify those items which are difficult to dispose of. This list is correct as at October 2006 and maybe subject to changes. The Area have to pay themselves for using Cleanaway or Transpacific.

APPENDIX A Collex Menzies Chemical Waste collection system

Use of the Waste Manifest Form

Introduction

In conjunction with the Environmental Protection Authority, Collex have developed a ‘Waste Manifest Form’ designed to collect, convey and record, clear and unmistakable information which can be either in electronic or hardcopy state. This information in most cases is required for legal requirements e.g. EPA and Workplace Services (ADG Code). The system also provides a safe, effective and controlled process from initial enquiry to final disposal.
