Chemical Industry Calls for Unified REACH Approach

Brussels, 16 September 2008 – “The Chemical Industry welcomes all constructive and realistic suggestions from all stakeholders to support REACH and to ensure its success. Robust criteria and reliable processes are crucial to ensure legal certainty in an already complex regulation,” says Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Association, with regard to the upcoming publication of the so-called ‘SIN list’ (Substitute it Now) from the NGO ChemSec.  The ‘SIN list’ is a proposal from a specific interest group and not part of the overall REACH legal design; it could potentially contribute to confusion throughout the value chain. We therefore urge all parties involved to follow a unified approach under the guidance of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA): Authorities, NGOs, industries and the supply chains need clarity and reliability and this is precisely why the Chemical industry is making every effort to comply with the REACH regulation.”
