    Overall Goals:  To construct a realistic statistical model of lung cancer risk and progression that will make it possible to relate current trends in lung cancer incidence and mortality to past trends in smoking in the US population.

    Overall Goals:  The major objectives are to provide biostatistical consultation, collaboration, and resources to clinical laboratory scientists involved in the planning, conduct, analysis and interpretation of research studies.  Research on the biostatistical aspects of clinical and laboratory scientists will also be carried out for problems arising in the course of consultation.  Also, appropriate educational programs in biostatistical methodology will be given to inform interested clinical and laboratory scientists.

    American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award, Shureiqi, Imad (PI), 1/1/04 – 12/31/07, 15-Lipoxygenase-1 and Mechanisms of Colorectal Tumorigenesis.

    Overall Goals:  This proposal will examine the mechanistic relationship between 15-LOX-1 expression and colorectal tumorigenesis using in vivo and in vitro models of 15-LOX-1 antisense I non-tumorigenic colon cell line (NCM460) and inducible 15-0LOX-1 expression systems in colorectal cancer cells.

    Overall Goals:  To investigate the role of environmental and genetic factors and their interactions in pancreatic cancer.  The environmental factors include dietary exposure to heterocyclic aromatic amines and cigarette smoking.  The genetic factors investigated in this study are carcinogen metabolism and DNA repair genes.

      Overall Goals:  The major objectives are to provide biostatistical consultation, collaboration, and resources to clinical laboratory scientists involved in the planning, conduct, analysis and interpretation of research studies.  Research on the biostatistical aspects of clinical and laboratory scientists will also be carried out for problems arising in the course of consultation.  Also, appropriate educational programs in biostatistical methodology will be given to inform interested clinical and laboratory scientists.

      American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award, Shureiqi, Imad (PI), 1/1/04 – 12/31/07, 15-Lipoxygenase-1 and Mechanisms of Colorectal Tumorigenesis.

      Overall Goals:  This proposal will examine the mechanistic relationship between 15-LOX-1 expression and colorectal tumorigenesis using in vivo and in vitro models of 15-LOX-1 antisense I non-tumorigenic colon cell line (NCM460) and inducible 15-0LOX-1 expression systems in colorectal cancer cells.

      Overall Goals:  To investigate the role of environmental and genetic factors and their interactions in pancreatic cancer.  The environmental factors include dietary exposure to heterocyclic aromatic amines and cigarette smoking.  The genetic factors investigated in this study are carcinogen metabolism and DNA repair genes.
